Leeds Manufacturing Alliance in conversation

Meet some of the team behind the Leeds Manufacturing Festival when business coach Bill Squires interviews members of the Leeds Manufacturing Alliance steering group about the benefits of joining the alliance and being involved with the festival. The online interview will be broadcast online via the LMF website and Linked In group, with contributions from, managing directors Tracey Dawson of Daletech Electronics, Chris Black of Sound Leisure, Ben Wilson of MPM Ltd, Graham Cooper of Systems Excellence, together with David Baggaley representing the LEP Growth Service and Leeds City Council’s economic development team and Mark Goldstone from West & North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce.

UTC Leeds | Work Experience

Leeds Welding Company plays host to a group of 30 Year 10 students from UTC Leeds hosting a series of factory tours over three days. As part of its support for the college and the Leeds Manufacturing Festival, engineering firm LWC has donated a substantial metal stocks to the UTC to help their engineering students with projects and will also be hosting a week-long work placement for one of the college’s engineering students.

Interview practice provides students with the opportunity to practice speaking about themselves to employers before they leave school. Interview questions and on-the-day support are provided by Ahead Partnership with each volunteer interviewing a number of students in turn

Virtual speed networking is an opportunity for students to gain insight into the roles available within various business sectors. This activity will run through half a morning with volunteers virtually ‘visiting’ each classroom with a small presentation about their career journey followed by a Q&A

Virtual 'Employ Me' Bootcamp

Virtual 'Employ Me' Bootcamp

An online bootcamp that helps students prepare for future recruitment processes, volunteers will lead short workshops on themes including interviews, CV writing and assessment centres pulling on their own experiences. All resources are provided by Ahead Partnership to be carried out virtually with students.

Virtual Mock Interview Practice

Virtual Mock Interview Practice

Virtual Interview Practice runs on Microsoft Teams. Volunteers are provided with a Teams appointment to join and this remains active for the duration of the session. Across this time, volunteers will do approx. 6-9 short interviews. Each student will have a 20-minute slot - 15 minutes for questions and 5 minutes for verbal feedback. There will also be a small performance feedback form to be completed for each student.
Ahead Partnership will provide all materials and full briefing ahead of the event.

Careers Carousel

The Careers Carousel is run on Microsoft Teams with volunteers from companies rotating around 'virtual classrooms'. Each session will last around for a few minutes and will involve volunteers sharing a short presentation on them, their business, routes into employment and the kind of skills needed in the sector. There will then be time for some questions from the students. This is an especially good event to showcase the types of careers in your company, Apprenticeships & graduate roles.
Ahead Partnership will provide a presentation template and full briefing ahead of the event.

Leeds Apprenticeship Festival

The event LAF21 - will be hosted virtually from Monday 8 February – Friday 12 February 2021.
The festival will showcase employers and training providers offering pre-recorded apprenticeship presentations to be shown during the day and live Q&A sessions to be held in the evening.
Visitors will be able to view the schedule of events online and watch videos during the day or book to attend a live Q&A session in the evening.

Apprenticeship Careers Panel

Careers panels are the perfect way for students to learn about business sectors and the variety of job roles within them. Our interactive format enables students to ask volunteers on the panel their own questions about careers journeys, job roles, skills and motivation. It is also an opportunity to discuss the different routes into the sector including apprenticeships, degree apprenticeships and graduate programmes. The Leeds Manufacturing Festival Apprenticeship Careers Panel at Mount St Mary’s will feature a panel made of current and former apprentices from manufacturers in Leeds.
